The Seventy-Second Session of the Commission

New York, 22 March to 1 April 2011


The International Civil Service Commission (ICSC) held its 72nd session at the United Nations Headquarters in New York from 22 March through 1 April 2011. ICSC worked on a range of important topics affecting all staff categories common system-wide. The Commission, inter alia:

- Completed its review of the methodologies for surveys of best prevailing conditions of employment of General Service and other locally recruited categories of staff and approved the revised texts of the methodologies which will come into effect on 1 January 2012;
- Decided to maintain the United States federal civil service as the comparator service for the Professional and higher categories of staff of the United Nations common system;
- Approved revisions to the mobility and hardship scheme;
- Approved the results of the 2010 baseline cost-of-living surveys at headquarters locations and Washington, D.C.
- Agreed on a work plan for the continuation of the review of pensionable remuneration, including the development of a revised approach to comparing the United Nations and the United States pension schemes as well as the overall review of pensionable remuneration methodology.
