Internationally recruited staff members holding a continuing contract or a fixed term appointment of more than one year, who are assigned by the organization for a period of one year or more primarily to field duty stations, or to varying duty stations over a period of time may be paid a hardship allowance. The allowance is not payable to locally recruited staff, to staff holding a temporary contract, to staff who either receive a daily subsistence allowance (DSA) or who are on mission subsistence allowance (MSA), to United Nations Volunteers, or to employees whose appointments are not executed under staff contracts.
