DSA is normally paid in connection with an official travel, such as a mission, participation in a meeting or similar activity and in line with travel policies of individual organizations (for instance, the duration of the official travel, the distance from the official duty station to the destination, etc.). DSA is not paid in connection with education grant travel, separation from the service, home leave or family visit travel, expect for stopovers that are made under specific conditions, which are beyond the traveler’s control. In special circumstances (e.g., the evacuation of a staff member and family members for medical or security reasons), the organizations also cover DSA up to a certain duration/amount and in line with specific rules of the individual organization.
